Composite and Davison charts are two techniques for constructing a symbolic chart of a relationship. They are not the same calculation and should not be interpreted as if they were another person’s natal chart without explaining the technique.
The midpoint composite
A midpoint composite derives its planetary and chart positions from the zodiacal or spatial midpoints between corresponding factors in the two natal charts. Its symbolic subject is the relationship considered as a shared system. The composite Sun can be read as the relationship’s central direction, and the Moon as patterns of collective belonging or response.
The Davison relationship chart
A Davison chart is calculated for a midpoint between the partners’ birth times and locations, using an actual date and geographical position. This distinction changes how positions and transits are derived. A Davison chart is therefore not interchangeable with a midpoint composite even if both are used to describe the bond.
Reading a combined chart
Interpret planetary placements, houses, angles and aspects as a coherent whole, then compare the result with synastry and both original natal charts. The method cannot measure the success of a partnership; its value is as an interpretive language for recurring themes.
