Interpreting a natal chart means reading a set of symbols as a coherent whole. The most reliable workflow begins with the birth data, the Ascendant and luminaries, then considers planets, signs, houses, dignities and aspects. A useful reading distinguishes what is known from what depends on a particular astrological tradition.
Establish the chart’s foundations
Confirm date, location, time zone and birth time. Check whether the chart uses tropical or sidereal zodiac and which house system is selected. The Ascendant and houses can change substantially with birth time. Note the Sun, Moon and Ascendant signs, then the chart ruler and any planets close to angles. This provides a working map before detailed interpretation.
Build interpretation in layers
For each planetary placement, combine three questions: what is the planet’s symbolic function, how does the sign qualify it, and where does the house express it? Add aspects to explain interactions. For example, Mercury in a fire sign does not explain communication style by itself if Saturn closely aspects Mercury or Mercury occupies the twelfth house.
Synthesize rather than tally labels
Look for repeated themes across several factors, and weigh contradictions. Elemental balance, emphasis on particular houses and aspect configurations can help, but no single scoring method is definitive. Record what is a traditional interpretive claim rather than implying that chart positions establish psychological or medical facts.
