Progressions and directions are symbolic techniques that advance natal chart factors according to established timing rules. They are not the same as ordinary astronomical transits. Their purpose in predictive astrology is to describe longer developmental themes alongside the movement of the actual planets.

Secondary progressions

Secondary progressions use a symbolic equivalence of one day after birth to one year of life. The progressed Moon is often studied for changes of sign, house and aspect, while progressed Sun and angles follow their own longer rhythms. The exact chart must be calculated from consistent birth data and method.

Solar arcs and primary directions

Solar arc directions generally advance chart factors by a common arc based on the Sun’s progress. Primary directions use a more geometrically complex system connected to diurnal rotation and celestial coordinates. These are different historical practices and should not be blended casually under the word progression.

Putting timing methods together

A coherent reading describes which method is used, how the date was derived and how the indicated theme relates to natal promise. Progressions can provide background context while transits help mark shorter windows. No technique verifies future events on its own.
