A simple Samhain opening ritual
- Clean the working space and place one seasonal object on the altar.
- Light a candle and name the purpose of the rite.
- State one thing you are preserving, one thing you are releasing and one thing you want to cultivate during the darker season.
- Spend several minutes in silence, prayer, journaling or contemplation.
- Close deliberately and extinguish any flame safely.

Threshold spell
Write a pattern you are ready to leave behind, fold the paper away from you three times and place it beneath a stone overnight. The next day, recycle or discard the paper and return the stone outdoors where appropriate.
House blessing
Walk clockwise through the home with a candle, bell or bowl of water. In each room, name the quality you want that space to support: rest, clarity, protection, study or hospitality.
Harvest gratitude spell
Place an apple, a few nuts and a coin in a small bowl. Speak aloud what has sustained you through the year. After the observance, compost the food where appropriate and return the coin to circulation.
Samhain blessings
May this turning of the year bring clear boundaries, steady purpose and remembrance of those who came before.
May this home hold what nourishes us and release what has become stale.

Not every modern correspondence is ancient. If you work with a deity, ancestor or spirit tradition, keep that relationship distinct from generic seasonal symbolism and follow the customs of the tradition involved.
